In brief

Different routes are not interchangeable. Product type, dose, onset, duration, medical supervision and legal status all matter.

Why route matters

Route describes how a substance enters or is applied to the body. Oral, oromucosal, inhaled, topical and rectal routes can produce different patterns of exposure. The existence of a route in research does not establish safety or effectiveness for self-treatment.

Consumer formats are not clinical equivalents

Hemp-derived products, state-regulated cannabis and FDA-approved medicines sit in different legal and regulatory settings. A retail oil cannot be assumed to match a preparation used in a trial or an approved prescription medicine.

Questions belong with a professional

Questions about symptoms, dose, administration or interactions should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional. Do not improvise a route of administration from an old web page, forum post or research abstract.
